Changing a flat tire is a rather straightforward process, but not many drivers know how to do it. The popularity of roadside assistance has provided a convenience to many drivers, but the long wait for a simple tire change might not be worth it. Here’s how to change a flat tire on your own from us here at Jack Miller Kia Parts.
Raise the Car
Once you’ve come to a safe spot, the first step in changing a flat tire is to raise the car off the ground. To do this, remove the jack and spare tire from your Kia’s trunk. Remove the hubcap and loosen the tire’s lug nuts. Next, place the jack under the vehicle where the owner’s manual indicates. Raise the vehicle with the jack.
Replace the Tire
Now that the car is off the ground, finish removing the lug nuts. Pull the flat tire off the post by pulling directly towards your chest. Next, slide the spare tire onto the lug bolts and tighten the lug nuts by hand.
Lower the Car
With the spare tire in place, lower your Kia part of the way to the ground. Tighten the lug nuts again, then finish lowering the vehicle onto the ground. Replace the hubcap and return your tools to the trunk. Check the spare tire’s pressure, and you’re good to go.
